Quixote is the name of my Trimaran project; which is still in the planning stages. I have decided to use Kurt Hughes for the design, i just haven't decided which one to build. I like the Spitfire (a 20' two seater) and a 23' rapid construction tri. I have priced out the boats and I was surprised at how cheap they are to build. The cylinder mold construction is also an attractive building method. Someday, I want to see this small tri grow into a D30 or D32, but that is later. I think the D30 would be a perfect boat to take south for a ocean vacation. Kurt is working on a swing fold tri... kinda like the seaon design. That will be a fun design to look at.
I'm also keeping an eye out for a nice used tremolino. I think the trem is a great boat.
The question in my head at this point is weather to use foam or wood for the core. The ply construction is a proven method... the crazy foam I want to use would make the boat cheaper to build but it is basically unproven. There was one boat built with this method and it is doing well, but one boat is different than over 400 KH boats that have done well with the traditional method. How much cheaper would it be? I plan to figure that out today.
